Ken Mayes is the Employer Relations Navigator at Syracuse University’s D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families, Employment Support Services.  In his role, he provides strategic direction, thought leadership, and business development essentials to establish, build, and sustain inclusive offramps to family-sustaining employment for the nations transitioning service members, veterans, military spouses, and members of the reserve components.  Ken is a steadfast champion for equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the workplace and an active member of Syracuse University’s Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion Council.  He is a certified human resource professional with the Society for Human Resource Management , a Certified Diversity Recruiter, and a Certified Diversity Executive. Ken has served as a SHRM volunteer leader for over 8 years as the Fayetteville Area Society for Human Resource Management Chapter President, and a USAA SHRM Ambassador, ensuring employers have the tools and skills necessary to include the military community in their hiring practices.  He currently serves as the Military Liaison Director for the North Carolina Society for Human Resource Management and is a member of the Board of Directors for Patriots Path, Inc., a non-profit organization that supports veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses in finding meaningful employment opportunities.  His work has been featured in USA Today, Forbes Magazine,, and the SHRM HR Magazine.  He has presented at various professional conferences as a panelists and subject matter expert for the hiring and retention of military talent.   Ken is a retired Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the United States Army with over 25 years of service and continues to serve as an ally, and champion for inclusive, and equitable, employment for the military community.
