Sergeant First Class Aaron Knowles enlisted in the Army in January 2004. He completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in June 2004 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was awarded the MOS of 88M, Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Operator. He was assigned to the 51st Transportation Company, 181st Transportation Battalion in Mannheim, Germany where he served from March 2004 until June 2006. The following assignments included 497th Transportation Co., at Fort Lewis, WA, The Henry H. Lind NCO Academy, Fort Lewis, WA, 46th Transportation Co., at Camp Stanley, Korea, and The 5-7 Cavalry Squadron at Fort Stewart, GA.

SFC Knowles qualified for and graduated from the Defense Information School 46Q Photojournalist Course with recognition for outstanding leadership in June 2012. Upon completing the course, SFC Knowles reported as the Public Affairs NCOIC for the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, GA.

SFC Knowles’ assignments include the 3rd Infantry Division Artillery PAO NCOIC, the 3rd BCT, the 3rd Infantry Division PAO NCOIC at Fort Benning, as well as the first enlisted chief of public affairs at Special Operations Command Central at MacDill AFB, in Tampa, Fl. He then was sent to Wiesbaden, Germany for a special assignment with Stars and Stripes Europe as a Feature Story writer. Following Stars and Stripes, SFC Knowles stepped up to the role of the Public Affairs NCOIC for the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
SFC Knowles deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

SFC Knowles’ military and civilian education includes Anti-Terrorism Evasive Driving – Staff Driver course, Senior Leader Course, DINFOS Journalism Course, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, Army Small Group Instructor Training Course, Total Army Instructor Training Course, Network Management Course, Information Assurance Certification Program Course, Basic Leaders Course, Army Retention Course, Hazardous Materials Level 2 Course. Additionally while in service, he earned a bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a focus on Public Relations from Southern New Hampshire University.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Army Commendation Medals, one Joint Service Achievement Medal, 7 Army Achievement medals, and 5 Certificates of Achievement.

Currently, SFC Knowles works as a journalist, editor, and community manager for ClearanceJobs.Com, manages the social media for veteran-focused businesses like MajorTalent.com, and is the found of Shred The Stress, a 501(c)3 that is dedicated to the betterment of mental health for the military community.

SFC Knowles is married to Carly Derrin. They have two cats; Howie (7) and Twyla (1).
